Maroon Coats is the student entity of the Texas A&M Foundation that functions as an ambassador group for the organization. As a nonprofit institution, the Foundation is committed to fundraising for Texas A&M, with a special focus on major gift endowments. These gifts are invested and part of the investment earnings are disbursed to meet the specific purposes designated by donors. This means that endowments continue to benefit Texas A&M perpetually.
Our team works closely with former students, corporations, and other supporters who wish to set an example by matching their philanthropic passions with meaningful opportunities at Texas A&M. Through these gifts, we create scholarships, advance faculty research, enhance student programs, and fund college initiatives and campus construction projects. These collective investments significantly contribute to Texas A&M's mission of providing exceptional undergraduate and graduate programs that set their students apart from other institutions.
So what? How has this affected me?Working with the Texas A&M Foundation as a Maroon Coat has shown me the magnitude of the impact that Texas A&M University is currently making on the world. It has also shown me the impact it will continue to make as a result of my peers and successors. At a milestone celebratory event dinner, our former Maroon Coats President, Jack Tucker, talked about his time at A&M and how it molded him. At one point, he quoted Winston Churchill saying, “To each there comes in their lifetime a special moment when they are figuratively tapped on the shoulder and offered the chance to do a very special thing, unique to them and fitted to their talents. What a tragedy if that moment finds them unprepared or unqualified for that which could have been their finest hour”. I believe that Texas A&M is a step above other institutions of higher education because it provides the education and experience outside of the classroom to properly prepare us for our finest hour. The university’s core values are brought to life in the relationships at the Foundation, which serve as an example for current students to recreate in our own realms of influence. As Aggies, we get to understand the purpose of the University, the values that it was built upon, and the continued efforts that are necessary to uphold that standard. For that, I am forever grateful to have worked with the Texas A&M Foundation, where I have learned from countless Aggies who have passed on their knowledge through impact so that the next generation can do the same.
